If you love and miss burgers on OMS your not alone, I did too, but these are the perfect substitute and much better for us. I threw this together when we were camping over summer and it was delicious, so I thought I’d share it with you.

I’ve made my own vegetable patties in the past with chickpeas, sweet potato and spinach which were pretty easy, but making all our food from scratch certainly takes time. Then I found this brand of Lentil & Chickpea Patties at Coles with no canola oil in them it’s a miracle!!

Eatwell Canola Oil free Vegetable Patties - OMS friendly

Pilpel Hummous - OMS friendly

I LOVE this brand of Hummous by PILPEL, they use extra virgin olive oil and not canola oil like most other brands do in Australia – the frustration is real!, so both brands are completely OMS safe.

Pilpel Hummous – OMS friendly Vegan cheese is not OMS as it contains coconut oil but you can just leave it out if you want. Sometimes I have to od piece but it’s not a consistent thing for us. We had some when we were camping so I threw it in. I’ve adjusted the recipe to feed a family of 4. Like I say they’re pretty filling so should satisfy the man or men of your house! recipe (serves 4 )

Vegan Burger

Vegan Burgers

  • 4 Long Sourdough bread rolls

  • 2 Avocado’s mashed

  • 2 Slices vegan cheese halved to make 4 long slices (omit for OMS)

  • 1 Packet of Eatwell Vegetable Burger Patties (as above from Coles)

  • 3-4 Vine or Sun Ripened Tomatoes, sliced

  • Mrs Balls Peach chutney or relish of choice

  • 8 Cos Lettuce leaves

  • Pilpel Hummus

  • Sea Salt & Pepper to taste

    To make

    • Slice open the bread rolls length ways and either bake in the oven on 180 degrees Celsius for about 5 minutes, till slightly crispy on the outside and warm and soft in the middle, keep an eye on them so they don’t get over done. Alternatively, if your camping place face down on a hot pan to heat till warmed and slightly crispy.

    • When bread rolls are warm, begin to layer toppings – add a good layer of mashed avocado to the base, followed by a layer of peach chutney and season well with sea salt and pepper.

    • On the lid spread a good layer of hummous.

    • Place the cooked vegetable pattie on top of the avocado, then vegan cheese half (if using), a few slices of tomato, a few lettuce leaves and place the lid on top.

It gets pretty messy but it’s worth it!

    Enjoy!!

Much Love

Simonne
